FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
To begin your karate journey, all you’ll need is comfortable clothing you can move in, like a T-shirt and joggers or leggings. We train barefoot, so no special footwear is required. Once you decide to continue, we’ll guide you on getting your karate uniform (gi) and provide information for enrolment. Most importantly, bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn; you’ll be welcomed and supported from day one!
Not at all! Our classes are designed for all fitness levels, and you’ll build strength, flexibility, and stamina as you train. Many beginners start with little to no martial arts or fitness background, and that’s perfectly fine. We’ll help you progress at your own pace in a supportive environment; what matters most is showing up with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
Absolutely not! Karate is for all ages, and many adults begin their training later in life. Our classes focus on building strength, flexibility, balance, and confidence, benefits that are valuable at any stage. You’ll be supported to train at your own pace, and you may even find karate to be a fun and energising way to stay active, relieve stress, and challenge yourself in new ways.
Gradings are held every three months. While there’s never any pressure to grade, your Sensei will guide you on when you’re ready to take the next step toward your new belt.
And to answer everyone’s favourite question… with regular training, a black belt can be achieved in as little as four years!
Fun Fact: In traditional karate, there were only two belts—white and black. Over years of training, the white belt would darken, symbolising the student’s hard work, determination, and experience.
